Dedham is Norfolk County’s shire town — the courthouse town — which gives injury cases here an unusual feature: both the district court and the Superior Court that would hear a Dedham lawsuit sit right on High Street, blocks from Dedham Square. It is also a retail powerhouse out of proportion to its 25,000 residents. Route 1, the Providence Highway, carries shoppers to Legacy Place and the Dedham Mall and commuters past a strip of auto dealerships and plazas, while I-95/Route 128 runs the town’s western edge. All of that traffic, retail floor space, and employment produces car crashes, falls, and workplace injuries, and Shea Culgin Law represents Dedham residents in all three kinds of cases.
Our office at 1350 Belmont Street, Suite 109, Brockton, MA 02301 is roughly a half hour from Dedham Square — Route 24 north to I-93/Route 128, or up Route 1 through Norwood and Westwood. Robert Shea and Joseph Culgin have spent more than 20 years representing injured people across Norfolk County, and they appear regularly in the Dedham courthouses where Dedham cases are decided.
Where Dedham Cases Are Heard
- Dedham District Court, 631 High Street, handles smaller civil injury suits and small claims for Dedham along with Dover, Medfield, Needham, Norwood, Wellesley, and Westwood.
- Norfolk County Superior Court, also on High Street in Dedham, is the venue for serious injury and wrongful death cases — not just from Dedham but from all of Norfolk County.
- Department of Industrial Accidents (DIA) — workers’ compensation disputes for Dedham employees are administrative proceedings at the DIA rather than court cases.

Dedham FAQ
Which hospital treats injured Dedham residents?
Dedham itself has no acute-care hospital. Most injured residents are taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham on Chestnut Street in neighboring Needham, or into Boston — Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital is just over the line in Jamaica Plain, and the major Boston trauma centers handle the most serious cases. Norwood Hospital to the south has been closed since the 2020 flood.
Is it an advantage that my case would be filed in my own town?
It is convenient — hearings, motion sessions, and trial all happen minutes from home, whether the case is in Dedham District Court or Norfolk Superior Court. What actually moves the outcome, though, is evidence and preparation, and that work starts long before a courthouse is involved.
What does a consultation cost?
Nothing. The consultation is free, we take injury and comp cases on contingency, and you owe no fee unless we recover for you.
